Bingin is the Uluwatu that people fall for: a jumble of guesthouses, warungs and surf shacks stacked down the cliff above a small white-sand beach, reached by a steep set of steps. The wave here is a short, hollow left over shallow reef, best for experienced surfers, and at low tide the reef becomes rock pools.
The lanes on the clifftop above have filled with cafés, coffee shops, yoga studios and boutique villas, but the beach itself is still a place for lazy afternoons and sunset beers. Impossibles, the long left to the south, is reached from the same stretch of coast.
Traffic on the main roads has grown, so many people base themselves here and walk or scooter short distances. The steps down to the beach are steep and uneven; bring sandals with grip and avoid carrying heavy bags.
