Alma is a neighbourhood tapas bar with branches in Berawa, Canggu and here on Jalan Pantai Bingin. The idea is simple: order several small plates to share and stay a while over drinks. The covered terrace is lit with festoon lights and opens onto the street, with a bar and kitchen at the back.
Dishes change, but reviewers single out the chicken wings, octopus, tuna and beef tartare, squid, croquetas and wagyu, with cheesecake to finish. The drinks list covers Spanish and other wines, artisan cocktails, infused gin and tonics, sangria and vermouth on the rocks. In the morning there is a separate breakfast and brunch menu, with dishes such as Spanish scrambled eggs and pan con tomate.
Breakfast and brunch are served from 7am to noon, and tapas and drinks from 3pm to 11pm daily. Bookings can be made through the website or by phone, and are advisable for dinner. Expect to spend more than the per-plate prices suggest once you have ordered enough for a full meal.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
