The Temple Lodge is one of the original places to stay on the Bingin cliff, with regular guests who have returned for more than fifteen years. It is a small collection of individually built bungalows and rooms made from timber, stone and found materials, set in gardens on the clifftop with views over the Bingin and Impossibles reefs.
Rooms are full of character rather than modern: carved wood, four-poster beds with mosquito nets and partly open-air bathrooms. Many rely on the sea breeze rather than air conditioning, so check the room type if that matters. The curved pool and restaurant terrace face the sunset, and the kitchen serves healthy, fresh food from breakfast to dinner. Yoga classes are held daily and spa treatments are available.
Bingin Beach is reached by the steep public steps nearby, so pack light and expect a climb back up. Monkeys roam the cliff and are curious, so keep doors and bags closed. The restaurant is also open to non-guests for a sunset drink. Book directly through the website or by phone.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
