Cachos is a small, colourful Mexican restaurant on Jalan Pantai Bingin, housed in a pastel building with a thatched front terrace. It is a cheaper and more casual alternative to the bigger Mexican venues in the area, and it is popular with surfers and people staying in the guesthouses nearby.
The tacos are the main reason to come: spicy prawns cooked on the barbecue, crunchy Baja fish and birria are the ones reviewers mention most. Burritos, chimichangas, nachos and quesadillas fill out the menu, and there are burgers for anyone not in the mood for Mexican. Frozen and spicy margaritas are discounted during happy hour.
Cachos opens for the afternoon and evening, from 4pm to 11pm daily. Thursday nights bring a live band and the place can get busy and loud; downstairs there is a pool table. No booking is needed for small groups. Pay attention to the traffic when walking along the Bingin road at night, as there is no pavement.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
