Ulu Fishmarket combines the recipes of Paia Fish Market, a Hawaiian seafood restaurant founded in 1989, with Japanese and Peruvian-style sushi. The original on Jalan Labuansait is one of the most booked restaurants in Uluwatu, and this newer branch on Jalan Pantai Bingin brings the same menu closer to the Bingin guesthouses.
Expect generous fresh-catch plates with rice and salad, fish burgers and burritos, tuna tartare with crisps, poke bowls and a long list of rolls topped with salmon, tuna or crunchy shallots. Signature cocktails are poured at the bar. The dining room is open-sided with timber screens, palms and pendant lights, and it fills up quickly in the evening.
It is open daily from 11am to 11pm. Book through the website for dinner, especially for groups. Prices are reasonable for the portion sizes, which makes it a good-value seafood option in an area where many menus are expensive. Lunch is usually quieter if you would rather not book ahead.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
