Ungasan & Melasti

The southern coast of the Bukit is where the cliffs are highest and the beaches most dramatic. Melasti beach is reached by a road cut through the limestone and has some of the biggest beach clubs in Bali. Nyang Nyang, Green Bowl and Gunung Payung are wilder beaches with long staircases, and Pandawa is a broad, family-friendly bay on the south-east.

Ungasan itself is the residential plateau above, with large villa estates and luxury resorts on the cliff edge, many of them with infinity pools and glass-walled restaurants. The views are superb, but distances are bigger than they look and you will need a scooter or driver.

The giant Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue and cultural park sits on the hill above Ungasan and is visible from much of the peninsula. Many of the beach clubs here run day passes with minimum spends, so check ahead at weekends.
