Warung Danish is a small, family-run warung in the row of food stalls at the back of Melasti beach, run by a married couple. It looks basic, with wooden benches under a tin roof, but the cooking is fresh and made to order: grilled fish, cashew chicken, nasi goreng, kwetiau, mie goreng, tom yam and fresh juices, avocado shakes and coconuts. A main course costs well under IDR 50,000, which makes it one of the best-value meals on a beach otherwise known for upmarket clubs.
It opens daily from 10:00 to 18:00 and accepts cards. Food comes out quickly, and the owners speak good English and are happy to adjust spice levels.
Melasti is reached by the steep road cut through the cliffs off Jl. Melasti in Ungasan, where you pay a small entrance and parking fee. Spend the morning on the sand, eat here at lunchtime, then walk along the beach to the clubs for a sunset drink if you want to spend more.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
