SAKA is a contemporary art and culture museum within the AYANA Bali estate on the Jimbaran clifftop, entered through the AYANA main gate on Jalan Karang Mas Sejahtera. Its galleries explain Balinese Hindu life through the cycle of the Saka calendar, with a focus on Nyepi, the Day of Silence, and the rites leading up to it, such as Melasti, Tawur Kasanga and Pengrupukan.

Exhibits include towering ogoh-ogoh sculptures, Kamasan paintings, the subak irrigation system and the ritual of Ngewacak Raré, which protects young children before their rites of passage, all tied together by the philosophy of Tri Hita Karana and the five great elements. The building itself, with its sweeping roof over reflecting pools, is worth seeing.

It is open daily 10:00–18:00. Buy tickets at ticket.sakamuseum.org, where you can also add the Museum Trail programme; groups of 15 or more should email [email protected]. All payments on site are cashless. It is a good rainy-day option and pairs well with sunset at the resort's Rock Bar.

Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
