Biu Biu is a boutique resort on the cliffs at the northern end of Balangan, with bungalows set among gardens and a big infinity pool looking out over the bay. Room types range from ocean-view and forest lodges to poolside, lakeside and family rooms; several have open-air bathrooms and canvas or timber walls, which keeps them close to nature but means you can hear the waves and your neighbours. There are two pools, the Senses Spa, and The View Restaurant for breakfast, sunset dinners and cocktails.
A private path leads down to a stretch of beach between the rocks. The sea there is usually too rough for swimming but it is a good spot for sunset photographs, and Balangan's main beach and surf breaks are a few minutes away. The resort also sells pool day passes and floating breakfasts to non-guests, so the pool area can be busy at weekends.
Rates are mid-range. Book directly through the website or WhatsApp, and ask for an ocean-view lodge if the budget allows.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
