Uluwatu Surf Villas sits on the clifftop at Suluban, directly above the famous left-hand reef at Uluwatu. The cliff-front villas are built from reclaimed teak and each has its own saltwater pool, with views straight down the line-up; a private staircase leads towards the break.
It is designed around surfing: boards are provided free of charge, there is private beach access and an on-site skatepark with a concrete bowl for flat days. Daily yoga takes place in a jungle studio, and the Mana restaurant serves breakfast and dinner with sunset views. The owners also run a traditional phinisi boat, the Pagi Bumi, for surf charters.
Many of the staff come from the nearby village of Pecatu and can arrange visits to the Uluwatu temple, including full-moon ceremonies. The surf here suits experienced surfers; beginners should look to Dreamland or Balangan for lessons. Book early for the dry-season swell months between May and September.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
