Uluwatu Surf School

Uluwatu Surf School is run by Scotty Dex, who was born and raised in Uluwatu and has around 30 years of surfing and eight years of coaching behind him. It is based on Jl. Pantai Suluban near the Uluwatu break and keeps ratios tight, with a clear focus on technique and safety.

Sessions are scheduled around the tide at Temple (the Uluwatu reef), Padang Padang, Bingin and surrounding reefs. Beginners start with sand-bottom take-offs and whitewater at Padang Padang before moving onto reef breaks. A standard lesson is 1.5 hours in the water plus 30 minutes on land; group lessons for three or more people cost IDR 450K per person per session at the time of writing, with semi-private and private options at higher rates. Equipment is included in lessons but not in guiding sessions. A filmed session with frame-by-frame video analysis can be added for IDR 300K.

The school works daily from 6am to 6pm, and dawn and dusk sessions are recommended for the best conditions. Book by WhatsApp. Payment is cash on the day with no deposit, and reschedules need two hours' notice.
