Uluwatu Made Guesthouse is a small, locally run guesthouse on Jl. Baler Setra in southern Pecatu, between the Uluwatu road and the clifftop resorts near Nyang Nyang. Two-storey blocks of rooms face a swimming pool and a traditional family shrine, giving it a homely, local feel.
Rooms are basic but clean, with the essentials for a few nights of surfing and sightseeing. Uluwatu temple and its Kecak fire dance are a short ride away, and Padang Padang, Suluban and Nyang Nyang beaches are all reachable within about 15 minutes by scooter.
It is a quiet, inexpensive base for travellers who plan to be out exploring all day. Scooter hire is the easiest way to get around. Book through the main booking platforms or by phone, and ask the hosts for local tips. Bring cash for small purchases nearby, and keep valuables out of sight on your scooter. The pool is a welcome place to cool off after the climb back up from the beaches, and the quiet street means undisturbed nights.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
