Six Senses Uluwatu sits high on the cliffs on Jalan Penaga, east of Uluwatu Temple, with terraced buildings stepping down towards a long cliff-edge infinity pool. It has 103 rooms, ranging from Sky Suites and Sky Pool Suites to one-, two- and three-bedroom Cliff Pool Villas, Sky Penthouses and a Presidential Villa. Interiors use earth tones, woven rugs and plenty of timber, and most rooms face the ocean.
Dining is at Rocka, which serves Balinese, wider Asian and European dishes and has a chef's table, and Crudo, with Japanese and Latin American flavours; there is also a poolside bar. The Six Senses Spa offers outdoor treatment areas, and yoga classes are held overlooking the sea. The resort has an organic kitchen garden and puts weight on sustainability.
The site is large and the lobby is some distance from many rooms, so the round-the-clock buggy service is useful. Monkeys are common, so keep doors closed. It is about 40 minutes from the airport and a short drive from the temple and the Suluban beaches. Book through the Six Senses website or by phone.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
