Masonry is the Uluwatu sibling of the Canggu restaurant, set in a large, modern dining room with a busy open kitchen near the Suluban end of Jl. Labuansait. Co-owner and head chef Ben Cross has worked in well-known Australian kitchens, and the cooking reflects that: produce-led, wood-fired and designed for sharing.
Diners recommend the octopus carpaccio, wagyu dolma, smoked chicken and a 48-hour slow-cooked beef short rib, finished with the wood-fired skillet chocolate chip cookie. Marinated olives come in generous portions. The cocktail list puts twists on the classics, and there is a good wine selection. Service is friendly and efficient.
Open daily from 12:00 to midnight. It is best enjoyed with a group so you can order several plates; solo diners will find portions large. Booking ahead is recommended for dinner, though walk-ins can sometimes be seated. It sits in the same complex as several other restaurants, so parking can be busy at peak dinner times; a scooter or a taxi drop-off is easiest.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
