Malini Uluwatu sits on the cliffs at Karangboma, just north of Uluwatu Temple, with a view along the sheer limestone coastline that is among the most photographed on the Bukit. Tables are spread across terraces stepping down the cliff edge, so many have an uninterrupted ocean outlook.
The menu is built around seafood, with grilled fish and prawns, calamari and seafood platters, plus lighter dishes, yoghurt bowls and drinks. Most diners agree the view is the star and the food is good rather than exceptional. There is a minimum spend of one food item and one drink per person.
Open daily from 08:00 to 23:00. For sunset, reserve one to two weeks ahead and specify an ocean-view table; even then, the very best spots go early. Daytime visits are easier and still impressive. Monkeys from the temple forest roam nearby, so keep bags closed and sunglasses off the table. Allow time for traffic on the temple road around sunset, when kecak dance audiences arrive.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
