Kayu Mama is a boutique wellness resort on Jalan Bukal Sari in the hills of Pecatu. Its bungalows are inspired by traditional Indonesian architecture, with timber walls, tiled roofs and four-poster beds, and they face either the gardens or the large shared pool with loungers and umbrellas.
Wellness is the focus. The spa has a cold plunge, sauna and steam room alongside massage and holistic treatments, and there is an open-sided yoga shala used for classes and retreats. The restaurant, hung with woven pendant lamps, serves a varied, health-minded menu that is also open to non-guests and has a good wine list. The resort can be booked in full for group retreats.
Kayu Mama is set back from the coast in quiet greenery, close enough for short rides to the beaches and Uluwatu Temple. Note that if you book the whole property, the restaurant, spa and pool may still be open to outside visitors. Reservations can be made through the website, by email or by WhatsApp.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
