Warung Jawa Allya is a typical Javanese roadside warung on the southern stretch of Jl. Labuansait, under a blue sign with a tiled floor and simple wooden tables. It is the kind of place local workers and long-stay surfers use for a cheap, quick lunch, and it is a useful counterpoint to the cafés along the strip.
Food is served from a glass counter in the nasi campur style: you choose rice and point at the dishes you want from trays of fried tempeh and tofu, vegetables, curried and stir-fried dishes, fried chicken, beef and fried whole fish, with sambal on the side. The price is worked out at the till according to what you choose, and a full plate costs a fraction of a café meal. Bottled water, tea and soft drinks are available.
Open daily 07:00–20:00. Come at lunchtime for the widest choice, as dishes sell out in the evening. Little English is spoken, but pointing works. Cash is the simplest way to pay.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
