Son of a Baker is an open-sided café on Jl. Labuansait, a short way inland from the Padang Padang beach entrance. The space is decorated in an eclectic, bohemian style, with low tables, floor cushions, curtains and local art, and it attracts a mix of locals, long-stay visitors and people working on laptops. Dogs are welcome.

The counter has freshly baked breads and pastries, cakes and house-made gelato. Drinks include specialty coffee, matcha and thick ceremonial cacao, and the café makes its own pumpkin seed milk as a dairy-free option for lattes. The kitchen also does breakfast bowls and a short Italian menu; the homemade gnocchi and pumpkin ravioli are better bets than the focaccia, according to regulars.

Open 06:00–18:00 Monday to Wednesday and 06:00–22:00 Thursday to Sunday, so it suits early risers. It sits on the main road, so expect some traffic noise at the front tables; the seats further back are quieter.

Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
