Papi Sapi describes itself as a neighbourhood grill, and it has quickly become one of the most popular dinner spots on Jl. Labuansait. Inside, a display counter shows the day's cuts of beef, chicken and seafood; staff walk you through the options before the kitchen grills your choice over fire.
Popular orders include strip loin, picanha, beef short ribs and tiger prawns, with starters such as duck rillettes and sides like mashed potato and truffled parmesan fries, plus sauces such as bone marrow. Burgers are big. Prices are reasonable for the quality, which is a large part of the appeal, and there is a garden bar and live music on some nights.
Open daily from 16:00 to 23:30. It is busy most evenings, so book ahead; if you walk in at peak time, expect a wait for mains and order starters first. The atmosphere is low-lit and lively, good for groups and casual dates.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
