La Kantina is an all-day café and restaurant on Jl. Labuansait in the busy section between Padang Padang and the Bingin turn-off. The dining room is open and airy, with timber tables, rattan placemats, pendant lights and plants, and there is a small terrace on the road.
The menu combines Western brunch and lunch dishes with Indonesian cooking. In the morning there are açaí and smoothie bowls, granola, eggs Benedict and avocado toast with bacon; later come burritos, rendang bowls, nasi goreng, satay, yellow curry, lasagne, chicken parmigiana, pumpkin soup and salads, with plenty of vegan and vegetarian choices. Desserts are a strength, notably carrot cake and a salted caramel coconut cheesecake. There is coffee, tea, juices and a cocktail list.
Open daily 07:30–22:30. Prices are reasonable for the quality and the staff are friendly, though service can slow down and noise levels rise when it is full. Reservations are accepted; there is parking nearby.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
