AVLI is named after the Greek word for a courtyard, and the restaurant on Jl. Labuansait in Pecatu is built around one: an open-air space with an olive garden, a lounge bar and long tables under a slatted pergola. Greek chef Angelos Lantos, who spent eight years at Spondi in Athens, runs the open kitchen.
The menu is made for sharing. Start with hand-whipped dips and pita from the oven, then the watermelon salad with feta, prawn saganaki and wagyu gyros with tzatziki. Bigger plates include wood-fired whole market fish, lamb orzo and lobster pasta. Portions are on the small side, so order a few dishes for the table.
It is at its best for groups and celebrations. OPA nights with plate smashing run on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Sunday brings a flower party from around 9pm. Open daily from 5pm until late; book through SevenRooms or WhatsApp, especially at weekends.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
