The Sakala Beach Club belongs to The Sakala Resort on Jl. Pratama, the long road that runs up the Tanjung Benoa peninsula north of the Nusa Dua enclave. It sits right on the sand of Tanjung Benoa beach, which is better known as Bali's water-sports centre, with an infinity pool, a sunken pool bar and loungers facing the sea.
The menu is intercontinental, from light snacks to wood-fired pizzas, tapas-style plates and cocktails, and the resort's other bars, including a beach bar and pizza bar, are close by. The sea here is sheltered by the reef, so it is generally calmer for swimming than the west-facing Bukit beaches, and the beach faces east, which makes it a good place for sunrise rather than sunset. DJs play on the sand during the busier months.
The club is open from 10am to 11pm. Non-residents should book ahead by phone or email, especially at weekends and during holiday periods, when it is popular with families and groups. Tanjung Benoa's jet-ski and parasailing operators are a short walk along the beach.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
