Made Bagus is one of the family-run seafood cafés lined up along Muaya beach, the southern stretch of Jimbaran Bay below the Four Seasons. It works the traditional way: fresh fish, prawns, lobster, clams and squid are displayed on ice, priced by weight, then grilled over coconut husks and brushed with a sweet, spiced Balinese glaze. Plates come with rice, vegetables and sambal, and the tables are set out on the sand facing the water.
The café opens from 08:00 to 22:00, so it also works for a quiet lunch or a cold drink by the beach, but it is busiest around sunset, when the whole bay fills with candlelit tables. Check the weight and price of your seafood before it goes on the grill, and ask for the sauce on the side if you prefer plain grilled fish.
Muaya beach is reached from Jl. Bukit Permai, near the Four Seasons entrance; there is parking behind the cafés. It is a good alternative to the larger, coach-group restaurants in the middle of the bay.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
