The Four Seasons at Jimbaran Bay is laid out like a Balinese village on the hillside above the southern end of the bay. Accommodation is entirely in walled villas with thatched pavilions, outdoor living areas and private plunge pools, most of them looking out over the water. Paths and buggies link the villas to the beachfront, where the resort runs the Sundara beach club and restaurant.
On site there is the Healing Village Spa, a Tropicsurf school for lessons and guided surf trips, a kids' club and several restaurants. The beach in front is Muaya, the calmest part of Jimbaran, and the seafood cafés along it are a short walk away if you want a cheaper dinner on the sand.
This is a splurge, and best suited to couples and families who want space and privacy. It is around 20 minutes by car from the airport. Book direct on the Four Seasons website for package offers, which often include breakfast and spa credit.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
