Gooseberry is a French restaurant tucked down Gang Pirta, one of the quiet lanes above Bingin beach. It has built an exceptional reputation, with thousands of reviews averaging close to five stars, for food that is polished without being stuffy, in a calm, elegant dining room and garden.
It serves all day. Mornings bring avocado toast with poached eggs and smoked salmon, açaí bowls and soufflé pancakes; afternoons feature a French-style afternoon tea of canapés, canelés, madeleines and tarts; dinner moves to dishes such as seared foie gras, steak and classic desserts like floating island. There is a full wine and cocktail list.
Open daily from 08:00 to 22:30. Book ahead for dinner, which is the busiest service; breakfast is easier to walk into. Prices sit at the top of the Bingin range but reflect the cooking and attentive service. The lane is narrow, so scooters or a short walk from Jl. Pantai Bingin are the easiest approach.
Peak season runs July to August and over Christmas: the best villas and beach-club beds book out early.
